Approximately 18,000 Model 1909 revolvers were manufactured from 1911-1912 only. The distinctive features of a 1909 include a straight non-tapered barrel, high polish commercial finish, and pony on left side of frame in stylized "C". Stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" under barrel. "U.S. ARMY 1909" on butt with lanyard ring and smooth walnut grip panels stamped "R.A.C." for Renaldo Carr. This revolver show little use, retaining 85-90% of the early high polish factory Colt finish with fire blue hammer and trigger. Grips are excellent. Indexes and locks up correctly and has a fine, near mint bore. Comes with a period holster that has regiment stamp on flap and an original Anson Mills 1881 dated web belt. In addition, this outfit includes a notarized letter stating this gun was purchased from the great nephew of Lieutenant Samuel Evarts with copies of enlistment papers. Evarts served with the Corps of Engineers in World War I. Beautiful high condition rig with history. This lot, along with the two accompanying lots, were all acquired from a relative of the soldier, Lieutenant Samuel W. Evarts.
