This is an extraordinary example, a John Papa recreation of the classic strength tester with originals produced by The Caille Bros. in 1904. It features an astonishing tiger stripe oak cabinet standing at seven feet tall with a mounted 4-1/2 foot cast iron figural body at the center, complete with a face plate and strength measuring dial. The large wooden marquee has a die-cut top, reading "Pull Boys! See If You Can Raise The Devil's Head?" with a photograph of a 19th century strongman positioned at the median. Patented date "July 12th 1904" is embossed on a plaque above the small circular window, where the devil's head is presumed to appear if patron manages to pull over 750 lbs. In order to achieve maximum strength, tug on the braided rope attached to Mickey Finn's torso, while placing foot on the small cast iron plate below. This is a phenomenal piece with no indication of visible wear throughout. One of only four made with no known originals, marked serial number 4. One key is included.
