This unique sword features a French Model 1896 Uhlen cavalry saber hilt and a straight steel double edged blade with deep single fuller on each side. The ricasso is marked "U.S." on one side and "L.F.&C./1919" with the flaming ordinance bomb. Blued steel scabbard with steel drag. Horn grip wrapped with twisted brass wire and Model 1896 French hilt of brass with guard pierced and decorated with chiseled foliage on both sides. This sword is the only one known in this configuration and includes documentation to L.B. Wyant, a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWI. There is an archive of information on Wyant, including copies of all of his service records. This sword was purchased from his estate, after he passed away in 1955, by Hank Jacoby. The sword is in excellent condition, overall. Blade retains almost all of original polish and excellent markings, there are only a few areas of light grey from handling. Scabbard retains almost all of blued finish with a few scattered marks. Hilt has been lacquered and retains a mellowing patina. Grip has on small chip on top, in front of pommel. This is a very interesting and attractive saber.
