Pre-war long tang deluxe model features high polish blue finish, hooded front sight, bolt peep rear sight, varnish two piece checkered walnut stocks, grip cap, Winchester quick detachable swivels and checkered steel buttplate. The Model 71 was a strengthened modernized version of the Model 1886 . Specifically designed for the .348 Winchester cartridge. The .348 has long been known a bruiser but was primarily designed for the toughest North American Big Game. The integral bolt peep was an expensive-to-make precision rear sight. This extremely early three digit serial numbered version is in very fine overall condition. Most all blue finish remains on barrel, receiver and magazine. Forend cap had flaked with age and approximately 40% blue finish remains. The buttplate has suffered the same thinning and also retains about 40% blue finish. The deluxe two piece stocks are very fine with slight wear at high points of forearms to rear of checkering. Slight finish wear also exist at bottom of forearms. Buttstock is very fine with most all finish remaining with several very minor period scratches. Bore and mechanics are very fine and crisp.
