Upon depositing a coin into the music box, the carved figure should move its right arm, appearing to crank the music box. The front of the music box is hinged and would drop down to allow for changing of the disc. This musical device operates with German 10 pfenning coins. This particular example is a replica of a rare machine with originals manufactured in the late 1890s and very early 1900s, the figure made of painted terra cotta. This example being of a later vintage, is made of carved wood. A similar example was sold at Breker Auction in May of 2017 for approximately $6000. In working order without keys.
CORRECTION: Music box plays but requires occasional assistance due to a misshapen gear.
