This very early example of a Fully Orchestral Interchangeable Six Cylinder Music Box was made in 1867 by the Charles Bremond firm of Geneva, Switzerland. It bears all the usual characteristics of a Transitional type music box from the 1860's. This includes a solid brass bedplate, squared off mainspring winding shaft with the early ratchet/pawl winding lever assembly and finally the "Dragon's Breath" case interior. It features a brass skinned drum and wood block struck by anvil strikers, six tuned bells struck by solid brass birds, and finally an eighteen note Reed Organ attachment. There are six cylinders playing six songs each totaling 36 songs listed on the original tune label. The tune label in excellent condition has been positively identified and attributed to the renowned firm of Charles Bremond. This music box has a wonderful tone and arrangements with a varied selection of songs. All contained in a stunning matched crotch face burl walnut case on its original matching table all accented with tulipwood inlay branding throughout. There are two drawers to store the extra cylinders. Above the musical movement is a double hinged dust cover featuring two burl wood and carved floral panels flanking a framed painting beneath glass. The painting is of the famed island "I'le Rousseau" dedicated to the famed philosopher and writer Jean-Jacque Rousseau in 1832. Located on the Rhone River feeding into Lake Geneva, the island remains unchanged to this day. A music box of this quality would only have been found in the finest of estates in the 19th century. Presented to Elizabeth M. Morris from her father as commemorated on a plaque dated from 1867. This very rare piece has been expertly restored and is in outstanding condition considering its age of 151 years. There is one early tooth repair on the treble comb. From the collection of Rita Ford Music Boxes.
