Probably late 19th century. After Albert Ernest Carrier Belluse (1824 - 1887). Signed "A. CARRIER" on bottom of cape, proper left side. Depicting Christopher Columbus beside a ship's captain within which is fitted a clock. The French clock with bevel glass door opening to an enamel dial with Arabic chaptering. The hole overlaid with fine gilt metal work tracery. The clock with 8 day movement striking on a bell. Brass back plate stamped with maker's name. Serial no. 47748. Clock is offered with pendulum. Movement appears clean and intact. The whole mounted on a deep, molded black marble plinth. Surfaces retain a very good patina. One flange of anchor with split at rear of sculpture, one arm of capstan at rear of clock is absent, otherwise in very good condition.
