Factory engraved by the master Cuno Helfricht with factory case and factory pearl grips. One of the finest factory engraved Colt automatics, No. 2612 features almost full coverage on the frame with incredibly finely cut scroll with Helfricht's own checkering pattern within. Grip safety is beautifully engraved as well and slide has 3/4 coverage. A beautifully cut starburst decorates the rear of the slide. Pistol retains nearly all the original bright bluing with some thinning towards front of slide and frame. Very slight wear on front safety and strap. Trigger has most of the nitre blue with slight rub to rear sight. The rarity and desirability of this fantastic Colt is further enhanced by it being a first year production piece, a barrel bushing gun. The factory leather-covered wood case is damaged at front and scuffed; green lining rates fine. Case features cartridge block for 15 cartridges and cleaning kit, all in recesses. Pistol still has original factory tag. We have seen only one 1903 automatic equal to this example, one formerly in the Robert M. Lee Collection and purchased by him at Butterfield and Butterfield engraved with portraits of American presidents.
