The spectacular factory engraved rosewood cased pair of 6" London 1849 Colt Pocket revolvers, serials No. 2073 and 2108, presented to Liborio Ramon Freire. The Liborio Freire 1849 Colts are acknowledged to be the finest set of engraved London Pocket revolvers currently known. These magnificent Colts are pictured in full color in "Colt Engraving" and "Colt Heritage" both by R.L. Wilson. Gun (A) Serial No. 2073 retains most of its original bright factory London bluing on the barrel, with some fading here and there. The frame retains most of its muted London case colors, as does the loading lever and hammer. Colors are slightly more vibrant on sides of hammer. The cylinder retains nearly all of its original bright factory bluing and perfect scene. There are minor chips on the chambers from snapping. Trigger retains much original nitre blue on sides with wear to front. The backstrap has considerable original silver and presentation inscription "Liborio Ramon Freire." The trigger guard retains much original silver plating with slight wear to the front. Deluxe walnut grips retain nearly all their original glossy varnish, minor dents throughout. All numbers match, including wedge. Bore is good. The classic London scroll engraving is tastefully done throughout. Gun (B) Serial No. 2108 retains nearly all of its original bright bluing on the barrel, with some minor flaking, mostly on one barrel flat. Frame retains its muted London case colors, as does hammer. Cylinder retains nearly all its original bright bluing, with some fading around Colt's patent legend and several significant scores around the cylinder from damage caused by cylinder stop. Backstrap retains much original silver, as does trigger guard with hand wear towards front. Loading lever has much original muted case colors. Gun has all matching numbers including wedge. Bore is good. The ultra-elaborate brass-bound London style rosewood case with split ring in lid and deep blue lining. Contains rare Colt's pocket flask which retains most of its original lacquer and most gilding on spout and top; as well as two large Eley's cap tins and two Colt molds retaining much original blue, one with considerable battering from use as a hammer. Exterior of case excellent, interior rates very fine. The best set of London Pockets known.
