"City Lights in Lake, Central Park". Johann Berthelsen (Danish/American, 1883 to 1969). Signed "Johann Berthelsen" at lower right. Pastel image of the view from Central Park of 59th street and 5th avenue. Born in Copenhagen, Berthelsen painted his favorite place- New York City, particularly Central Park. Berthelsen established himself as a pastelist, later moving to oils. He worked with small canvases and focused on executing the seasonal transformations of NYC. Member Salmagundi Club, American Watercolor Society, and Allied American Artists. Provenance: From the estate of the artist.
