"New York City During a Snow Storm". Colin Campbell Cooper (American, 1856 to 1937). Signed "C.C. Cooper" at lower left. Terrifically painted winter NYC street scene during a beginning snow storm, executed probably circa 1920s. An American impressionist, C.C. Cooper was inspired by Childe Hassam. Born in Philadelphia, Cooper studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and in Paris at the Academies Julian under Thomas Eakins. He taught at Drexel University and later served as Dean of Painting at the Santa Barbara Community School of the Arts in CA. He is especially known for his architectural and street scenes of Philadelphia and NY. This is a major work by Cooper, whose technique was bold, exuberant brushstroking, particular in his street scenes of NY or Philadelphia.
