"Primitive Bridge Over Crum Creek, Newtown Square, PA". Signed "J.C. Rhell" at lower left and inscribed lower right. Charming Victorian-era genre scene of a mother and child clutching the bittersweet railing of a log bridge over an identifiable creek in Newtown Square, PA. Notice the two boys fishing on the other side of the fallen tree. This was probably painted by a naive folk artist who traveled the PA/DE area in the 19th century. Very little is known about this artist at this time, as he was probably an itinerant. Terrific picture with fabulous lemon-gold frame.
