Lot contains: (A) Model 1881 Pith/Spike Helmet of white cotton duck over pressed cork, brass infantry eagle front plate and spike. Leather sweatband with a Horstmann contract stamp. Complete with its white leather chin strap. CONDITION: Excellent condition. (B) Model 1881 Pith Helmet of white cotton duck over pressed felt. Front is pierced for a eagle helmet plate - now missing, brass cavalry side buttons. CONDITION: Leather sweatband and green cotton visor facings show minor wear. Helmet body is excellent. (C) Black wool over pressed cork body is excellent, interior leather lining and visor facings show wear. New York National Guard helmet featuring a 9th Infantry front plate, white horsehair plume, infantry side buttons and cloth-backed chain. CONDITION: (D) New York NG helmet of black cloth-covered pressed cork with the additions of Federal hardware including a brass eagle front plate and signal corps side buttons. CONDITION: Very good. (E) 24th Infantry Officer's Spike Helmet. Black wool over pressed cork body, two-piece eagle/infantry front plate with the numbers "24" on the shield, infantry side buttons, oilcloth-backed chin chain. Interior with wide leather and red silk sweatband and "Henry Allien & Co New York" crown label. Helmet is housed within its Japanned tin container which contains a few extra brass helmet fittings. CONDITION: Interior shows wear to the sweatband, exterior in excellent condition. From the Ray Bentley Collection.
