This special order Winchester is in the most popular of available calibers at the time, the venerable .44-40. It features full octagon barrel, special order button magazine, German nickel front sight, Winchester semi-buckhorn rear sporting sight, blue finish, case colored hammer and lever, rifle butt, walnut stocks. Factory research shows rifle shipped September 26th, 1883 and confirms configuration. CONDITION: Barrel retains approximately 40% original factory blue, blending with soft brown patina, and retaining its strong legends and sharp edges. Both sides of the frame retain approximately 85% of the original high polish Winchester blue finish, blending with soft patina, and exhibiting some of the usual striations found on original guns. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal, no cracks or chips. Forearm has 14 kill notches on left side near frame. Rifle butt has brown patina, traces of color on hammer, lever patterned out. Bore exhibits strong lands and grooves, fine action. Extremely handsome antique Model 1873 special order rifle.
