This rifle features a fully octagonal heavy rifled barrel with front dovetailed blade sight of silver and rear buckhorn sight mounted on top. Shaped tang retained by two screws extends into wrist and terminates in an arrow. The flat percussion lockplate is of brass and is engraved at the front and back with foliate designs. It is stamped "L ROGERS / XENIA / OHIO". The hammer is also of brass. Features double set triggers and a four piece engraved brass patchbox. Small unengraved escutcheon surrounds a single lock retaining screw. Full length highly figured maple stock complete with original wooden ramrod. CONDITION: Barrel retains a heavy, dark patina with a coat of old varnish on top and some corrosion near breech and bolster. Brass lock and furniture retain a mellow mustard patina and show some light scattered marks. Stock has no restoration and shows some scattered marks from and age cracks along forend. There is an area of loss between lockplate and barrel tang, and on top of front lockplate tang. Mechanism functions properly but hammer is loose and has some play. This is a very attractive rifle.
