This Revolutionary War period American musket has been re-stocked in cherry and has a New England form. The barrel, lock, trigger guard and buttplate are of iron and from a Model 1763 or 1766 French musket. The round, tapered barrel is unmarked and has a small thin bayonet lug mounted at the top of the muzzle. The flat French lockplate has beveled edges, the King's proofmark, and is marked "St. Etienne" in the center. Most of the furniture is iron and from a French musket with the exception of the brass American ramrod ferrules and nose cap. The iron ramrod is a period replacement. The cherry stock is of New England form. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark brown patina, with some corrosion near touchole. The lock is a professional re-conversion. Iron furniture retains a dark brown patina and brass retains a mellow patina. Stock shows some scattered age cracks and marks from use, as well as a few thin splinters from barrel along left side. This is a very nice American assembled Revolutionary War musket.
