Wrapped in silver, this California knife's handle features three abalone shell and two silver panels on each side, abutting a silver guard. The spear point blade with false edge bears an illegible portion of a marking on the ricasso, possibly ...OWE. Brass sheath with clip on reverse, silver shield on obverse. Pictured in Knifemakers of Old San Francisco by Bernard Levine (p.139, both editions) and in California's Best: Old West Art & Antiques by Brad & Brian Witherell (p.145). c.1860s-1890s. CONDITION: Blade shows signs of sharpening and use, the handle with a few dents and dings.
