Lot consists of three regulation pattern US 1840 NCO swords by Ames, Roby, and Emerson and Silver. All with scabbards, including characteristic steel scabbard of E&S. (A) Muted brass hilt, good Ames maker mark in scroll and US / AHC / 1862 on ricasso. Blade pad in place. CONDITION: Very good. Blade smooth, silver gray, good edge and point, minor gray spots, still shows cross polish at blade base. Scabbard shows wear spots to finish. Good seam. Both mounts in place, weak spot above drag with fold to leather. (B) Roby. CONDITION: Medium tone to brass hilt. Roby address on obverse ricasso. "US / 1864 / AGM" on reverse. Cross polishing present. Some very small nicks to edge at forte. Otherwise good edge and point. Smooth bright metal, but with some light gray spots and a few areas of darker gray spots. Scabbard very good. Minor wear spots, some crackling. Good seam. Mounts tight with medium tone matching hilt. (C) Emerson and Silver. CONDITION: Very good. Hilt shows some gilt to pommel and guard. Blade with good edge and point. Silver gray in tone with dark gray streaks. No blade pad. Firm name and address reverse ricasso, "US / DFM / 1863" on reverse. Light traces of cross polish. Scabbard very good. Mounts with medium tone. Drag shows some dents and missing screw. Smooth brown color to scabbard body. A good cross section of contractor supplied Civil War regulation army swords carried by NCOs and by infantry company sergeants in particular. (SR)
