Standard configuration of hilt and blade. Cast grip with roped design on ridges and wire binding in channel. "Proved X" inset disk obverse ricasso, "iron proof" on back of blade near guard. Solingen blade maker's mark of arrow in oval of dots at reverse ricasso. Reverse blade etched foliate, stand of arms with US flag and script US above. Obverse with stand of arms with US shield, foliate and American eagle with spread wings over branches, no arrows, with motto ribbon overhead. Scabbard smooth brown, brass throat and mounts with mellow tone. Drag, middle, and upper mount with engraved geometric and floral designs. Upper with entwined US on upper portion. CONDITION: Very good. Medium tone to brass hilt with some traces of gilt in recesses. Grip with triple wire undamaged and tight. No blade pad. Thin frosting but etching is very visible. Smooth metal, dull silver in color, small scattered grey spots. Good edge and point. Regulations specified a leather scabbard for foot officer's swords, but many preferred a more robust metal scabbard. This is very nice, high grade example. SR
