France, Ca. 1880s. Gorgeous bisque socket head marked Bru Jne 4 on bisque shoulder plate with molded breasts and marked Bru Jne on the left and No. 4 on the right. Beautifully painted face with long light brown multi-stroked eyebrows, mauve eye shadow, bulbous amber/brown paperweight eyes with large pupils and threaded irises, painted upper and lower eyelashes, chin dimple, pierced ears with earrings (inconsequential 1/4” red line and tiny pit at crown rim, 2 tiny wig pulls above one ear), closed mouth with lip shading strokes. Excellent original Chevrot kid body with kid over wood upper arms, hinged elbow, and lovely bisque lower arms, carved wood legs. Cork pate with French brown human hair wig with curls. Original lingerie of white cotton shift, half slip and split-leg drawers, original cotton brocade and lace dress appears to have been dyed and enhanced with velvet ribbons in the 1950s by a previous owner, matching hat. Original socks and marked Bru Jne 4 Paris brown leather shoes with rosettes. A fabulous, most desirable doll.
