Percussion muzzleloading smoothbore cavalry carbine with sling bar and captive swivel ramrod. Round blued barrel with London commercial proof marks retained with two wedges, color casehardened lock marked “T POTTS/LONDON.” Hammer with bun nut and male threaded tumbler suggesting potential sale to British colonies like India. Brass furniture includes trigger guard, buttplate, nose cap and ramrod pipe. 1-piece walnut stock. CONDITION: Fine. Retains much of the period blued finish with thinning and fading, showing scattered freckles of surface oxidation that could be cleaned. Crisp markings on metal, brass with a rich, uncleaned patina. Mechanically functional lock, bore apparently very good to fine with a thick layer of Cosmoline protecting it. Stock crisp with some light handling marks and scattered bumps and dings. Wood retains fine edges and remains full-length and solid without any repairs. TP
