Originally a percussion New Model 1863 Carbine manufactured for the Civil War, it was converted to accept .50-70 metallic cartridges. Standard 22" blued barrel with nickel insert front sight and ladder rear sight. Converted straight breech case hardened receiver with Sharps and Lawrence patents. Walnut stock fixtures include iron barrel band, saddle ring and buttplate, with no patch box. Left center of stock marked with very light "DFC" ribbon cartouche added at the time of its conversion. CONDITION: Very good to good. Metal components retain portions of original finish, with strong case colors retained on protected areas of lever and sizable amount of bluing left near breech. Other areas exhibit silvery brown patina. Wood lightly sanded with scattered expected usage marks and a few abrasions. Bore good with some older corrosion. Good mechanics. BAS
