1953 Vintage Colt Model 1911-A1 serial number 262545-C. 5-inch barrel, chambered in .45 ACP. Blue with checkered brown composite grips. Very interesting pistol with original Colt documentation. Apparently in 1953 Colt was toying with the idea of introducing a magazine release safety feature on the 1911-A1 pistol which locked the trigger from firing when the magazine is released. This pistol, serial number 262545-C is outfitted with the experimental device. Appearance of the pistol is no different than any other 1911 of the period, however when the magazine is released, the trigger is locked, and the pistol will not fire. Accompanying the pistol are Colt drawings of the three components which accomplish this feature, drawings GX-2549 "TRIGGER ASSEMBLY", GX-2550 "TRIGGER FINGER PIECE" and, GX-2551 "MAGAZINE CATCH". All three drawings are dated and approved by Colt Patent Fire Arms Mfg. Co. on 4-10-1953. Also included is a Colt internal document titled "EMPLOYEE PURCHASE PLAN ORDER FORM" No. 4569 dated, 4-14-1967 authorizing Colt employee Donald Golden to purchase the pistol directly from Colt in 1967 for the sum of $30.00. Colt invoice number 8-034 dated 8-3-1967, to order number H-6-998 documents the sale of the pistol to Mr. Golden for $30.00 plus $1.05 Connecticut state sales tax. CONDITION: Excellent overall with most of the original blue remaining, The only noticeable lose of blue is found inside the trigger guard. Grips are excellent showing little wear. Bore is bright. Action is tight and crisp. Overall a nearly new 1953 vintage 1911A-1 pistol. Though Colt elected not to bring the idea to market, this a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of Colt developmental history. MKS
