1880 vintage Winchester 4th Model 1866 lever action saddle ring carbine, serial number 154031. 20" round barrel chambered in .44 Centerfire with full-length magazine tube, non-adjustable flip-up carbine rear sight, and barrel band front sight. Brass frame assembly includes saddle ring which was wrapped in a leather strip long ago to protect the frame from scratching and bolt face has been converted for use with centerfire cartridges. Conversion was done by drilling out and threading in a new bolt face/firing pin assembly into the bolt at some point after this gun left the factory. Two-piece plain walnut stock and forearm complete with carbine buttplate with storage compartment (compartment is empty). CONDITION: Good, with barrel and magazine tube turned a mottled dove-grey patina with scattered handling and storage marks throughout. Frame has turned a pleasing dull mustard patina and does not show any evidence of polishing. Stock and forearm are good, with heavy handling marks throughout and repaired cracks at left side of rear barrel band and top of buttplate. Action works appropriately when cycled by hand, but could use some attention as extractor has bent upward. Bore is dark with well-defined rifling. Overall, a well-worn "Old Cowboy Gun" which I'm sure could tell some interesting stories. TON
