1 of 3,000 U.S. Model 1817 Flintlock rifles made by R & J.D. Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut between 1817 and 1840. 36" rifled .54 caliber round barrel with 2 iron barrel bands, double strap front iron nosecap, blade sight, rear notch fixed sight, "P" and "JH" proofs, and tang dated 1825. Flintlock with brass pan, dated 1825 over "MIDD CONN" in arc at rear with "U.S." over "R.&J.D. JOHNSON". Walnut full military stock with iron furniture including butter dish lid patchbox, spur trigger guard, and sling swivel attached. Comes with original steel ramrod with brass tip. PROVENANCE: Rich Guckes Collection. CONDITION: Metal has faded to a silvery patina with some light corrosion. Stock has been lightly cleaned with some light handling marks and dings. Dark bore with visible rifling and good mechanics. DLM
