During the early 20th century, the firm of Paul Losche, known as the Leipzig Orchestrion Works, produced a wide variety of pianos and orchestrations, distributed mainly in Germany, Belgium, and England. Because Losche produced pianos and orchestrions under private label, the brand is not widely known by collectors and is thus scarcer in availability. This example, known as the violin and solo piano orchestration, was their most widely distributed model and sold primarily from the 1910's to mid 1920's. A seldom-seen version with violin pipes and xylophone accompanied with piano and mandolin, this instrument has a deep rich sound, but not over powering like American orchestrions of the same period. Many mechanical instrument collectors of today believe the German and European built orchestrions have a superb sound, and this Losche lives up to that standard. Meticulously maintained by its current owner this wonderful instrument would make an excellent addition to any mechanical music collection.
