Circa 1927. A scarce and special game gun. The Westley Richards “Ovundo” was only made from the year 1913 until 1936 when it was taken out of production as Westley Richards were changing designs. Thus this model was allegedly to never be made again in its original format. This particular gun has been built with 28" blued steel barrels. Barrels are nicely fit with ejectors and 2 - 3/4" chambers. The over and under barrels have a smooth and narrow concave rib with steel front bead sight. Rib reads "WESTLEY RICHARDS 23 CONDUIT ST. LONDON GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO H.M. THE KING", "OVUNDO". "4" (in gold) near breech. Side rib reads "OVUNDO SYSTEM REGD NO 354045/1913". Barrel wings (flats) read with Birmingham proofs, "NITRO PROOF", "1 oz", "2 3/4"",".626", "BP", "20", "20 / C" in diamond, 3 1/4 tons per square inch mark, and reproof mark. The rod that runs through the left fence and interfaces with the bottom striker has raised slightly and is proud to the fence; as a result, most of the finish has been lost due to a higher rate of exposure. Bottom barrel with serial number "1646", and "H.L". Chokes are Modified in top barrel and Full in bottom barrel. Sideplated drop lock action with "WESTLEY RICHARDS" in gold on side plates. Case colored and grey patina action with double triggers, blacked top lever with "4" in gold, and engraved "WESTELY RICHARDS EJECTOR" ahead of top lever. Serrated top safe slide with "SAFE" in gold. Gun is auto-safe. European walnut stock with glossy oil finish, drop points, tightly checkered English straight hand grip with long black bottom strap engraved with "1646", gold shield engraved "JBC" and finished with an orange Silvers style pad. Splinter style game forend with horn tip, matched checkering, and Deeley style latch release which is case colored with "4" in gold. Gun lives in leather case with brass corners. Case with paper trade label, J.B.C. on exterior tablet and a pair of nickel plated 20 bore snap caps. Gun also comes with paperwork (signed letter of authenticity, weapon history, etc...). CONDITION: Very good. Barrels are very good with most of their color and bright bores. Action is sound. Triggers are crisp and ejectors are in time. Stock is good with some handling marks. Forend with matched checkering has small fractures left and right above checkering near breech. Case is good exterior and interior ware from use and storage. Neat Gun.
