Made by Winchester Repeating Arms in 1886. Plain 24" blued octagonal factory Winchester Steel barrel with Winchester 2-line address and King's patent in 32 W.C.F. with full length blued tubular magazine. Rifle was originally shipped with a 30" barrel with Beech front sight; this example was shortened at some point, as is commonly encountered on guns shipped with extra length barrels. Standard front sight with fixed notch rear sight and desirable Winchester 73 covered peep tang sight. Case-hardened frame with set trigger. Deluxe checkered walnut pistol grip stocks with black ebony triangle inlay and crescent steel buttplate. The brass elevator is marked "32 CAL" and is stamped during the period of use with a former owner's name "R. Thurman". Factory research confirms all other options, including tang sight. CONDITION: 50+% fading barrel blue on barrel with light freckling, finish fading to plum patina throughout. Silvery brown patinaed receiver with a few faint flashes of case color in protected areas. 10% varnish. Heavy handling marks and dings overall with checkering worn flat. Dark pitted bore with visible rifling and soft mechanics, set trigger is out of adjustment. A great gun for restoration.
