An 1889 patent No. 11 Adams & Westlake steel guard single-guard wire-bottom railroad lantern. The fount is not original to this frame and includes a No. 1 shrouded ratchet burner. "N.Y.L.E. & W.R.R" is nicely embossed on the lid reflector. The top of the chimney shows denting. The lantern's metal surfaces are mostly smooth and show an old restoration with overcoat. The flashed red No. 39 extended base globe is embossed "NYLE&WRR" is serif font in average relief. There is a top-to-bottom crack to the right of the marking near the right seam.
