A No. 39 double-guard wire-bottom lantern made by the Railroad Signal Lamp & Lantern Co. The bayonet fount is correct for this model, includes a No. 2 ratchet burner and has an oval brass tag affixed with serial No. "22544" incised. "B&O. R. R." is lightly embossed on the lid reflector. Serial No. "22544" is nicely embossed on the chimney side. The lantern shows light rust over a wire-brushed surface. The signal green No. 39 extended base globe is embossed "Macbeth" near the top fitter and "B&ORR." There is a 3" tight hook crack in the back. Color translucence is very good.
