A cast iron and bronze locomotive front number plate. The plate is cast iron with cast bronze numerals and was mounted long ago on a mahogany-veneered board that shows some water distress and staining. The plate has old black field color with lightly tarnished bronze polished numerals "17." There is provenance information on the back that reads "#17 = 4-4-0 = Cooke Class C Built 1898 OSWEGO ANTIQUE = 39." Back of mounting board is complete with substantial hanger.
