A brass R E Dietz no. 39 frame that has been modified with the addition of bail ears on the side verticals. The bayonet base is correct for this model, has a no. 2 light oil Badger ratchet burner, and is hallmarked underneath. There are no stress cracks in the brass. Lantern shows a lightly tarnished patina. The signal green globe is a M. M. Buck no. 5 example (5" tall with 2-3/4" top fitter and 3-1/4" dia bottom fitter) and is nicely embossed "O&M" in serif font with heavy relief. The globe is a loose fit in this no. 39 frame. There is a top-to-bottom tight crack in the globe on the back side opposite the marking. This is a rare globe looking for a no. 5 Buck frame, which is a standard unit for the O&M.
