A double-guard No. 39 brass-top lantern made by the Steam Gauge & Lantern Co. in Syracuse. "N. Y. O. & W. Ry" is nicely embossed on the lid reflector. The bayonet base is correct for this model and has a No. 2 ratchet burner affixed. There is an old repair under the base, indicating a possible electrification at one time. The lantern frame shows a smooth, medium-dark patina. The brass top is significantly dented. The Steam Gauge hallmark is prominent in the chimney. The signal green No. 39 extended base globe is nicely embossed "NYO&W Ry." Color translucence is excellent. There are a few small fitter flakes and some significant swirls in the glass.
