A fixed-base double-guard brass-top frame made by the Railroad Signal Lamp & Lantern Company (but not hallmarked) for the New York & New England RR. "7001" serial number is stamped in the base. "N Y & N E R R" is nicely embossed on the lid reflector. The chimney twists to clamp the globe. The plug-in glass fount is correct for this model and has a No. 1 "Pick Wick" lard screw affixed. The fount is cracked. The flashed red globe is a classic New England barrel, with "N Y & N E R R" nicely embossed in serif font in average relief. There is some flake chipping in the base fitter. Color translucence is good. The lantern appears to have been cleaned long ago, and shows some very light surface rust and etching. The brass top is perfect.
