A cast iron ALCo Schenectady builder's plate off of Chesapeake & Ohio K-4 class 2-8-4 steam locomotive, road No. 2770, built April of 1947, construction number 75183. This builder’s plate is the last version known as the “flying gear”-style plate and was one of the very last steam locomotive production runs. This particular locomotive was one of the very last to operate on the C&O and was stored for many years after the end of steam in Russell, KY. It was slated to be preserved but was accidentally scrapped. Plate shows newer black field paint with gold-painted lettering, logo and borders. Back of plate shows newer black paint over a previously lightly-pitted surface. This plate matches with the "surf board" number plate offered elsewhere in this sale.

Condition: (8.0).
