This nifty little machine gun utilizes .22 LR ammo only and includes one pan magazine and one drum driving mechanism. Vertical foregrip is reminiscent of the Thompson, and the rear sight is very reminiscent of the U.S. 30 carbine. Markings are located on the underside of the receiver on this specimen, which was manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah. There is a knurled knob which allows for the removal of the barrel and foregrip assembly. This is a nice feature as it allows this gun to be disassembled for ease of transport in a very compact package and also makes the parts more accessible for cleaning. Cocking handle is on the left side, safety on the right side. Selector switch is a push-button reminiscent of the MP43/MP44. As a consequence of having its rotating pan mag on top of the receiver, reminiscent of the Russian DP-28, the sights of this machine gun are quite high. This specimen has a high-capacity pan style magazine which is so high it interferes with the sight arrangement. There were other barrels produced that would accommodate this high capacity magazine and one can see this on another gun also being offered in this auction. Both guns came from the same consignor and no doubt he changed barrels as he desired. The American 180 utilizes a neat magazine system that incorporates a detachable hand-wound spring device to rotate the drum on a steel plate which brings the rounds within the mag in line to feed into the gun. When these are fired, the sound has been likened to that of a sewing machine, with the spray of bullets likened to, "A swarm of angry bees". CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent deep lustrous blued finish on barrel and black anodized finish on the aluminum parts with black hardcoat on upper part of the receiver. Feed-way block shows use and loss of finish to a gray patina. Very attractive wood with some light handling marks. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright. E&L magazine is in extremely fine condition, as is driving mechanism. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select-fire only machine gun. These are popular recreational machine guns as ammo is plentiful, and clean-up is straightforward. A great little well-made recreational machine gun! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2023-12-21
