Manufactured in 1863 by New Haven Arms Co. at the height of the Civil War, where many Henry repeating rifles were used as private purchase arms in addition to limited government contracts. This rifle features a blued 24 - 1/4" octagon barrel chambered in .44 Henry Flat RF and stamped on the top flat with large style 2-line address. Correct later style tapered squared back German silver blade front sight and dovetail mounted folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards. Full length magazine tube with with large brass follower and forward sling bar. The plain walnut buttstock is formed with an obtuse comb angle and mildly curved belly, a defined "Henry bump" present on the left side. Stock hardware includes a left mounted iron sling swivel and a later style brass crescent butt plate with pointed heel and tool trap. CONDITION: A very fine example. Barrel displays the majority of its original blue, especially in protected areas, the balance fading to a rich plum. Receiver exhibits an exceedingly attractive bright golden-toned patina, some aged grease present in the panel gaps. Stock is likewise fine with minor blemishes and an abrasion near the toe. Especially fine and bright bore with strong well defined rifling. Mechanically fine. Matching numbers observed on the barrel breech, receiver tang, stock channel, and inside of butt plate. Screws are unnumbered as is consistent with production above approximately serial number 5100. Matching "175" assembly numbers present on the loading gate and the round portion of the barrel under the gate, the muzzle collar unnumbered. An overall outstanding, untouched example of a highly desirable Civil War period repeating rifle.
