Circa 1930 & 1938. (A/1) 27" chopper lump nitro proof blacked steel barrels with ejectors and 2 - 5/8" chambers. Concave, smooth tapered rib with round small steel front bead sight. Rib with number "1" in gold inlay, light scroll near breech and reads "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY ST. LONDON.", "MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.". Barrel flats stamped London proofs, "12", "NP", "NITRO PROOF", "1 1/8", "2 5/8", and "12C". Barrel bottoms stamped "CHOKE" and serial number. Barrel flats stamped London proofs, "12", "NP", "NITRO PROOF", "1 1/8", "2 1/2", and "12C". Barrel bottoms stamped "CHOKE", serial number, and "JA". (A/1) choked Improved Cylinder on left and Skeet on right. (B/2) choked Skeet on left and Improved Cylinder on right. Both sidelock actions with cocking indicators, disk set strikers, blacked and engraved top levers numbered "1" and "2" in gold; double triggers are non-auto safe. "SAFE" in gold on both guns. Slide safes are nitre blued, engraved, and checkered. Guns are engraved with Purdey's traditional scroll and read "J. PURDEY & SONS" at bar. Bottom of actions with matched engraving and read "J. PURDEY & SONS", "LONDON", and "ENGLAND" ahead of trigger plate. Trigger guards are blacked and engraved with long bottom straps. Bottom straps with appropriate serial numbers. Guns are with typical reddish brown walnut stocks and English straight hand grips. Stocks are fit with gold ovals engraved "RCL" and finished by 3/4 length checkered wood butts. Both guns with splintered forends. Forends are numbered "1" and "2' in gold on their respective scroll engraved escutcheons. Both with Anson push releases and scroll engraved exterior iron metal. Interior iron metal numbered "1" and "2" and with serial numbers. Number 1 is also marked "H.M." while "2" is marked "VV". Guns reside in oak and leather case with cleaning rod, snap caps, tools, and patches. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels with most all of their black with some indications of handling use. Bores are very good/bright. Actions are very good with majority of case colors faded. Actions, triggers, and ejectors all function well. Stocks and forends are very good with few and minor handling marks. Vintage case is good with handling and storage marks.
