Made on a large ring Mauser action with visible Nitro proof, Ulm proof, and caliber designation at the left side of the barrel shank. Left side of receiver with serial number, preserved in its own vignette. Rapid taper barrel without iron sights is inlaid with gold wire in a faintly Art Noveau style, with "KURT JAGER MAINZ" on top. Approximately 5 - 1/2" of barrel towards shank is engraved with well-cut semi-relief oak leaves on a stippled background, with gold wire borders. Engraving extends to action, with gold line borders, wide crosshatch matting around drilled and tapped screw holes for mounting a scope, currently filled with gold screws. Engraving and goldwork continued all the to the rear of the receiver, and engraving, but no gold, is present on receiver. Bolt handle has gold work and engraving en suite, with a large floral on the ball. Magazine bottom metal with oak leaf engraving and gold line en suite, and a game scene of a pair of bighorn sheep in a mountainous scene. Trigger guard is inlaid in gold wire "J.T. QUiRK". Pistol grip cap with contrasting cap and bone bordered and diamond inlay. Sling studs at forearm and at toe line. Monte Carlo stock of a straight, tightly grained walnut is as ornate as the barrel and receiver, with incise carving of oak leaves, crosshatch checkering at forearm and pistol grip, and inlaid with a contrasting forearm tip and bone/ebony inserts on either side stock in flattened area on either side of magazine. Buttplate is engraved en suite with gold wire on the perimeter of the trap. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the custom finishes applied when engraving and gold work was completed. Some random handling marks throughout, and superficial scratches to the bluing from use. Stock is excellent, with random impressions and dings from handling, but free of cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, bore is excellent with strong rifling; breech face is exceptionally clean, rifle may be test fired only. An extremely attractive rifle in a great caliber.
