Circa 1936-1938. Composed pair of English built 12 gauge sidelock ejector game guns. Both blacked round 28" chopper lump nitro proved steel barrels are fit with ejectors, 2 - 1/2" chambers, and a tapered, smooth, concave game rib with steel front beads. The barrels on both guns are choked Improved Modified on left and Improved Cylinder on right. Ribs are marked "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDELY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON.". Ribs near the breeches with "1" and "2" in gold. The case color hardened finished action bodies are adorned with rose bouquets and scrolls and beaded fences. The bottoms of the lockplates are engraved "J PURDEY & SONS LONDON ENGLAND". Blacked scroll engraved top levers with "1" and "2" in gold inside an oval, both sides have checkered thumb pieces, and "SAFE" is in gold on top tangs, ahead of engraved and checkered slide safeties. The Beesley assisted opening sidelock actions are fit with smooth, fire blued double triggers protected by engraved trigger guards, cocking indicators, disc set strikers, and automatic safeties. Well figured reddish-brown walnut stocks with checkered English straight hand grips and drop points. The straight hand grips are supported by long engraved bottom straps with serial numbers. Splinter forends with similar checkering and Anson style push button releases. The exterior steel of the forends are similarly engraved. Forend tips with "1" & "2" in gold. 15 - 1/2" LOPs to a 1/2" leather-covered recoil pads. Guns reside in the makers double leather motor case with Purdy's label affixed to the interior lid along with a charge card and an illustration on placing the guns in the case. CONDITION: Excellent. Guns benefitted from a past refurbishment. The bores on both guns are bright and shiny and are tight on the action faces. The leather covering the recoil pads on both guns are worn from use. The triggers are crisp and the ejectors are strong. Light handling/use marks on both guns buttstocks and forends. The case is in very good condition with handling and storage marks. A great pair of guns.
