Circa 1910. 1 of 10 built on a James Purdey and Sons sidelock action with nitro proofed shiny blacked 29" dovetail steel barrels. Barrels with 2 - 3/4" chambers and ejectors. Barrels with swamped, concave game rib and round brass front bead sight. Rib with number "2" in gold and reads "JOHN DICKSON & SON . 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH.". Chokes are Improved Modified on left and Improved Cylinder on right. Barrel flats stamped with original proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers, and reproof for "12-70", "BNP" and ".729". Bottom mid rib with importers stamp. The coin finished sidelock action with rose bouquet and scroll engraving reads "JOHN DICKSON & SON" near bar. Action is built with cocking indicators, fire blued bladed double triggers and is non-auto safe. "SAFE" is in gold. Top lever is blacked with scroll engraving and "2" is in gold. Water table with makers mark, serial number, and proofs. Blacked scroll engraved trigger guard and long bottom strap with serial number. Reddish brown walnut stock with drop points and a checkered straight hand grip has been designated with a gold oval engraved "DPW" and finished by a checkered butt. Finely checkered splinter forend with engraved escutcheon, "2" in gold, Anson push button release, and blacked engraved exterior iron metal. Interior blacked iron metal with serial number to match. Gun lives in vintage leather case with brass corners and black "JOHN DICKSON & SON" trade label, and a pair of snap caps. CONDITION: Very good. Barrels excellent with shiny black and shiny bores. Action is sound. Ejectors are strong and triggers are crisp. Stock is good with evidence of light rebounding split behind right lock, bruising, and slight repair at bottom strap. Forend is good with slight soft checkering. Case shows its age and is good.
