David Miller and his partner Curt Krum are regarded as some of the finest builders of custom hunting rifles, and their rifles have taken game worldwide. They set 2 world records in the 80s when they sold a rifle for $41,000 in 1982, and in 1986, sold another rifle for $201,000, and are mainstays at SCI. This example built on a Model 70 action, which David Miller sources from Winchester while they are still in the white, as a benefit of helping them revitalize the Model 70 design. The barrel is sans any provisions for iron sights and fluted to reduce weight. Shank reads "DAVID MILLER CO. / -300 WIN.-" on left side, while action reads "-MARKSMEN-" on left ring, "Winchester" on beveled edge left of bolt, "DM-G41" above, and "4 CARTRIDGES" at ejection port. Bottom of magazine plate reads "-300 WIN-". Mounted with one of Miller's proprietary scope mounts with a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40 SFP scope with a rangefinding duplex reticle and fit with a flip-up bubble level; Miller's mounts are well-known as they sit the scopes extremely low. David Miller custom stock (for which he charged an additional $1,500) made of walnut with attractive, heavy fiddleback, a contrasting forearm tip, pistol grip with steel grip cap, beaded shadowline cheekpiece, and an orange recoil pad with English-style covered screws. Very light line engraving at the pistol grip cap, action screws decorated with florals. Bows for sling swivels on toe line and at forearm; silver vanity plate at toe line, under cheekpiece. CONDITION: Very good as field used. Barrel retains the vast majority of the matte bluing, with some scattered thinning, and one area of silvering on barrel commensurate with rack wear. Stock is excellent, solid, with random bumps and scrapes from field use, but solid and free of significant chips or cracks. Mechanically excellent, bore is excellent, bright and shiny, with strong rifling. Glass is clear. These rifles are outstanding and have been used by notables such as Jim Carmichael, Tom Turpin, and Craig Boddington; with David Miller's passing, no more of these fine rifles are being manufactured.
