1st variation Auto Ordnance, Savage “S” prefix 1928A1 Thompson. Upper and lower assembly serial numbers are non-matching. Lyman adjustable rear sight. Vertical foregrip. Auto-Ordnance marked with bullet logo compensator, and left side of receiver marked “U.S. Model 1928 A1” with serial number S-358969. Lower assembly serial number S-398479. Other left-hand receiver markings are “THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN”, “CALIBRE .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE”. Right hand receiver markings are typical “AUTO – ORDNANCE” with Bridgeport address. Barrel index mark just slightly not in alignment with receiver. This is typical of guns which were rebuilt and refurbrished after World War II. Accessories include 1 WWII-era “Bridgeport” 50-round drum, 4 20-round "Bridgeport" magazines, and a reproduction hard case with 20 1/2" brass cleaning rod and reproduction tin parts box. Electronic NFA registry indicates “THOMPSON” as the manufacturer. PROVENANCE: From the estate of a very discerning and advanced collector. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent dull matte gray-blue refinish with near excellent original unsanded, unrefinished wood which has some very slight handling marks. One can "feel" the grain with one's fingertips. Slight loss of blued finish at actuator slot. Buttstock wood is slightly "proud" of the buttplate. Drum has a matte finish, and stick magazines a lustrous finish. Bore is extremely fine to near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face near excellent. Mechanics are crisp. This is a select fire machine gun. A great looking WWII Savage 1928A1 Thompson pretty much untouched since rebuild. Not many out there like this one! THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2023-12-75
