Various patterns of British or European military and civilian/private purchase helmets or hats for tropical or hot weather service, ranging from late 19th century through mid-20th century. Generally constructed of pith or cork bodies, covered in khaki-colored (unless otherwise described) twilled cotton fabric lined with varied cotton fabric inside with leather sweatbands. Lot includes a white pipe-clayed hat with salmon-colored, linen lining bearing maker's label: "Star Millinary" of Calcutta; a flat-topped variant with green fabric brim lining and pale blue paper lining to crown with "MADE IN INDIA" paper label. Russet leather chinstrap; a British military issue helmet, WWII era, bearing illegible contractor's stamp and date "194[?]" inside crown, two side hooks of brass attached under leather sweat for chinstrap (missing). Moderate use staining to both sides but otherwise good; a broad-brimmed helmet with green brim lining, with maroon silk crown lining bearing maker's stamp in gilt lettering: "TRESS & CO./ LONDON/ Expressly Manufactured for/ DaCosta & Co. Ltd./ Colonnade/ Barbadoes". Showing wear including water staining and some holes to brim lining with original russet sweat and chinstrap, in fair to good condition; a late 19th-early 20th century British military style "Zulu Wars" helmet with green cotton brim lining and glazed, brown cotton crown lining with brass-vent ring at top of crown inside, russet leather sweat with brass chinstrap hooks underneath (strap missing) in moderate wear including stains and foxing in good condition; a helmet japanned or lacquered white outside, early 20th century British military style with green cotton brim lining and twilled serge crown lining with russet leather sweatband and brass side hooks for chinstrap (latter missing) and brass ventilation ring in top of crown inside, screw securing top button outside, white faux leather military style cork hat, no lining has sweat pan with moderate wear but in otherwise good condition.
