Very nice example of a Model 1832 Foot Artilleryman’s short sword. This example was produced by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Massachusetts and is dated 1844. The artilleryman’s sword features a double-edged steel blade and a solid brass hilt. Blade is marked on the reverse ricasso "U.S (?)H" and "N. P. AMES / CABOTVILLE" on the obverse ricasso. The reverse face of the crossguard is marked with the initials of the arsenal inspector “J.W.R." and the obverse face of the crossguard is marked "S.K.". The brass hilt has the typical scaled handle and eagles on both sides of the pommel. The sword is complete with its leather and brass scabbard. The blade exhibits a heavy patina. The brass handle exhibits handling wear with a pleasing patina. The leather scabbard exhibits scattered surface creases and cracks but is complete with its brass throat and drag. All rivets present except for 1 in the drag which is slightly loose. CONDITION: Good.
