Manufactured by the firm of Theofiel Mortier, Antwerp, Belgium in the very early 1900s. This Mortier Dance Organ is an extremely fine example from the most famous and respected firm of Dance Organ builders in all of Europe. This organ includes MANY ranks (sets) of pipes, approximately 600 pipes, brass trumpets, and percussion with multiple drums, chimes, and other musical effects. It was restored by the firm of J. Verbeeck in Belgium and plays magnificently. It is a complete joy to entertain all that have the privilege to hear it! Due to size and requirements of disassembly this instrument will be sold via a video presentation online and at the auction house. The 115 Key Mortier is assembled and in working order at the collection building of Mr. Paul and son Chris Andrews in Fort Worth, Texas. Please contact any of the Morphy Auctions staff to make arrangements for a private on-site visit and full inspection prior to the sale date. Morphy Auctions will provide assistance to the new buyer for relocation of the instrument anywhere in the world. Imported from Europe during the 1960’s by Hathaway & Bowers Inc. in California. It was purchased from the H&B firm by a prominent collector in Houston, Texas. Judge Roy Hofheinz was important in obtaining the major league baseball franchise for Houston and building the Houston Astrodome. This and other musical instruments were slated to be publicly displayed at the new Astroworld amusement complex. After some years, the park went to other hands and this beautiful Mortier joined another private collection. It was eventually acquired by Paul Milhous and a full restoration was undertaken by master organ specialist Johnny Verbeeck in Belgium. At the sale of the Milhous holdings some years ago, it went again to Texas, this time to the collection of Paul and Chris Andrews. The organ plays from its original cardboard music books as well as a nice supply of Verbeeck manufactured cardboard music, and a digital MIDI player system. The façade and imposing statues and wood cabinet were refinished at the Verbeeck shop in Belgium. This instrument is presented in excellent working condition and is simply breathtaking to hear and admire.
