DSP. Sign is Maker Marked Peerless. An incredibly clean and outstanding example of this iconic Circa 1930's Porcelain Service Station Sign from Shell Gasoline showing iconic yellow and red Shell colors as well as die cut Clamshell shape. Sign shows a very unique ink stamp of "Property of Shell Petroleum Corporation - Peerless 8-38". CONDITION: Side one is an absolutely outstanding condition showing immaculate color and gloss throughout the field with clean lettering as well as excellent shelving between each color. Side one shows only a few very light and minimal areas of surface scratch as well as all four of its original brass mounting grommets. Side one shows very light wear left edge as well as some very light nicks at the bottom overall side one displays incredibly well it would be very tough to upgrade, Grade 9.25+. Side two also shows outstanding color and gloss throughout the field showing no chipping with excellent Shell lettering. Side two shows one minor surface scratch in the lower left field as well as some very light scratching in the upper center field. Side two also shows a factory flaw type defect near the mounting holes showing black marks in the Porcelain where the Sign would attach to an iron mounting ring. The black areas are not overly distracting in overall side two displays incredibly well with a clean field and clean outer edge, Grade 9.0+. An extremely nice example of this iconic sign from Shell that is slightly different than the majority of the Shell Signs sold with a unique Makers Mark as well as slightly different shade of color.
