RARE COPY OF A WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 SADDLE RING CARBINE MADE BY THE PIRLOT BROTHERS OF LIEGE, BELGIUM IN SADDLE SCABBARD THAT HAS A CARTOUCHE ON RIGHT SIDE IDENTIFYING AS BEING MADE BY E.T. AMONETT OF EL PASO, TEXAS. PIRLOT FRERE''S 1866 NSN 44 CF Cal. 44 CF. 20" bbl. Blue finish with gold washed gun metal receiver. No bbl address. There is a small circle "B" proof behind rear sight and Belgian proof mark on left breech side of bbl. There is also a crown "U" proof. The gun metal receiver has a crown "U" proof on left side of receiver ring and an oval "EB" proof on left side in front of side plate. Right side of receiver is marked "PIRLOT FRERE''S A LIEGE". There are traces of gold wash on receiver overall. Lever has a very small loop and hammer has very coarse checkering. Stocks are straight grained dark European walnut with a crescent gun metal buttplate. Saddle scabbard has remnants of hanging straps and a clear cartouche on right side. Cartouche reads "E.T. AMONETT MAKER EL PASO, TEXAS. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. "Bill" Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a smooth silver-gray patina overall. Sights are good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Proof marks are clear. Gun metal receiver has been lightly cleaned overall and shows traces of gold wash finish. Markings are very clear. Loading gate is silver-gray patina as is hammer, lever and trigger. Stocks are very good with a dark brown finish. Slightly undersized at wrist and 1 crack at tang. Crescent buttplate is an even mustard patina. Saddle scabbard is good with considerable crazing toward muzzle and dark stains overall. Cartouche is clear. A extremely rare copy of a 66 Winchester saddle ring carbine that could definitely have seen service during Mexican Revolution. 49973-20 TEP (2,500-3,500)
