Rare and Fine 18K Gold Cooke & Kelvey, Calcutta, India, Grand Sonnerie Minute Repeating Hunter Case Pocket Watch, Circa 1897. Grand Sonnerie automatically sounds time in hours and quarters when chime/silent selector switch is in the 'On' position. Watch has two switches around the outer edge underneath the front cover. The first switch, "Grande - Petite", changes Sonnerie function to include hours and quarters when in "Grande" position, hours or quarters when in "Petite" position. The second switch is marked "Chime - Silent" and controls Sonnerie function. The tip of the lever on the "Chime - Silent" function is broken just beyond gold bezel, but is present and included and does not affect functionality. Watch has minute repeating function on demand. Case is fully hallmarked with Chester City mark, 1897 date mark and crown with "18K" fineness marks, also marked with raised case maker initials "F. T." over "Co". Fancy interlocked monogram to front cover of case. Dial has a few faint hairline cracks extending outward from center, otherwise watch is in exceptionally fine condition, needing only minor attention to the dislodged "Chime - Silent" switch tip. Watch tested with all functions working properly, repeater must be reset after initial winding. This is achieved by sliding external repeater switch three or four times once.
