A lock of gray and brown hair contained in an envelope that reads "Robert E. Lee's hair / certified genuine" signed and dated 1967. The lock of hair is accompanied by a copy of a letter that is dated 1866 and signed by Lee. The letter reads: "I duly appreciate the Compliment paid once, in naming your first child after me, + send to him the the lock of hair you desire. Be pleased to present my regards to your wife + accept my earnest wishes for the happiness + welfare of your chine + self". An interesting letter with a warm gesture from the former General in Chief of the Armies of the Confederate States. The hair is contained in a small plastic bag inside the envelope. This lock of hair is former Dr. John K. Lattimer Collection. Lattimer was known to collect hair from notable historical figures. CONDITION: Good.
